Outer Island Kayak

This kayak is the Outer Island. It is made from western red cedar in 16-20 ft. lengths creating a hull with no scarf joints. There are virtually no nail holes that hold each strip to the form when building. Entire kayak is encapsulated in fiberglass and marine epoxy. There are 6 coats of Captain’s Spar Varnish on external wood. Gray foam molded seat. Other species of wood in kayak include cherry, pine, and red oak. Kayak is in excellent condition except it will need a new front hatch cover. Hatch covers are from Valley Canoe Products.

I made this kayak and am an experienced, award winning builder.

Wooden boats are much lighter than plastic or fiberglass. Kayak is 17 ft. 10 in. in length with a width of 21 inches and weighs around 42 lbs.

This is a high performance kayak for experienced paddlers. You can easily maintain over 3 mph paddling, has excellent secondary stability, and tracks like it is on rails.

Also includes a kayak carrier that fits on a car top, 2 rail rack system. A Werner Kalliste carbon fiber paddle, 220 cm. A Wilderness Systems spray skirt.

I am 5’9’ and fit fine. If you are over 6 ft. you may not fit. It has a small cockpit and a very narrow hull, thus the high performance.
