There are many high performance corrosion protection systems available on the market from epoxy tank linings, polyurethanes, and marine coatings. There are many reasons why linings and coatings prematurely fail. Product manufacturers go through great lengths in developing their product specifications which must be strictly adhered to in order to prevent coating failures and honor a product warranty.

Coating manufacturers base much of their application specifications off of the Industry Regulations set forth by the following agencies: NACE **(National Association of Corrosion Engineers)**, SSPC (Steel Structures Painting Council), IOS (International Organization for Standardization). All of these agencies specify different degrees of surface cleaning and preparation based on the type and condition of the surface requiring corrosion protection.

Coating manufacturers also certify contractors to become **“Certified Applicators** of their products. This ensures that applicators will adhere to the specifications containing strict guidelines in the areas of: specific uses and chemical tolerances, surface cleanliness, surface profiling, application methods and equipment, tinting guidelines, reduction allowances, mixing instructions, temperature ranges of the air and surface for application, wet film and dry film thickness ranges, ventilation requirements, and cure times for over-coating and immersion service. All of these guidelines must be strictly adhered to in order to provide a long-lasting corrosion protection system.
